History
A Short History of Pineville
This overview sticks to points we can source and marks what still needs research. We'd rather publish less than repeat local legends as fact.
Overview
- 1795 — James K. Polk is born in Mecklenburg County, in the area now commemorated by the state historic site in Pineville (source: NC Historic Sites).
- 19th century — Pineville develops as a small railroad community south of Charlotte; the town was incorporated in the 1870s (source: Town of Pineville history materials).
- 20th–21st centuries — regional growth around Charlotte brings I-485, Carolina Place and new housing around the historic core.
