Pineville Town Limits Versus a Pineville Mailing Address
Why the word "Pineville" on an address doesn't settle which government serves a property — and the five-minute check that does.

The confusion
Two houses can sit a short drive apart, both with "Pineville, NC 28134" on the mailbox, and be governed by different municipalities. The U.S. Postal Service assigns ZIP codes and place names for delivery efficiency. Municipal boundaries are drawn by annexation and state law. They overlap, but they don't match.
That's why listings, apps and even neighbors can describe a home as "in Pineville" when the parcel is actually in the City of Charlotte or unincorporated Mecklenburg County.
Why it matters
- Taxes: municipal rates are added to the county rate, and they differ by jurisdiction.
- Services: police, solid waste and some utilities follow jurisdiction.
- Rules: zoning, permits and code enforcement come from the governing municipality.
- Civic life: who you vote for locally and who you call about a pothole.
The check
Look up the parcel in Mecklenburg County's Polaris system and review the jurisdiction and tax district fields. Compare with the most recent tax bill. If anything is unclear, ask the Town of Pineville directly. Our town limits guide walks through each step.
Next step
Doing this before you fall for a house saves surprises later. Then confirm the school assignment and utility providers for the same address.
